Allison F. Goddard

Allison F. Goddard, 75, Rockford, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 in her home. Born March 30, 1936 in Freeport, daughter of Charles W. and Jeanne M. Whitman Furst. Graduated from Freeport High School in 1953, received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wellesley College and her Master of Arts in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University. She was a former long time member of the Unitarian Universalist Church, and she considered herself a life long Episcopalian. She had been the District Representative for Congresswoman Lynn Martin, and she served as the Special Assistant to the United States Secretary of Labor. Allison was active in many community organizations including the Rockford Junior League and the Rockford Arts Council and was a proud member of the Republican Party. She was a friend of Bill Wilson and appreciated the fellowship of all those people who trudge the road of happy destiny. She was an energetic, outgoing, vibrant, approachable personality with refined taste. She had great love and appreciation for art and music and was instrumental in bringing the Alexander Lieberman sculpture "Symbol" to Rockford. Survivors include her children, Paul Whitman (Leah Krippner) Goddard, Rockford, Katherine Goddard Viret, Sarah Goddard (Philip) Adler, Glen Ellyn and Christopher John (Kristi) Goddard; grandchildren, Christophe Dakota Viret, Julian Etienne Viret, Jemma Elizabeth Krippner Goddard, Crete Margaret Krippner Goddard, Hadley Faith Goddard, Charles Whitman Adler, Benjamin Lee Goddard and Katherine Caroline Adler; sister, Janet (John) Grant, Birmingham, MI; brother, Frank E. "Ned" (Harriet "Hapsie" ) Furst, Freeport; nieces and nephews, David (Leslie) Grant, Martha Furst, Laura (Michael) Werkman, Susan Furst, Stephen Grant and Elizabeth Furst Wright; several cousins, including Tom and Darlene Furst of Rockford, and her long time special Tennis Group of friends. Predeceased by parents and her friend, Peter Anderson. Allisons family would like to extend a special thank you to Jenniel Wright and Dainus and Genovaite Samalionis for the nurturing care, love and assistance that she received from them.A memorial service will be held to celebrate Allisons life at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 412 N. Church Street , with Rev. Pamela Hillenbrand officiating. Memorial visitation from 47 p.m. on Monday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road and from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial in Oakland Cemetery, Freeport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Rockford Park District Foundation Art In The Park Project or the Rockford Symphony Orchestra.
