Amy Florence (Poole) Nieman

Amy Florence (Poole) Nieman, 104, of Rockford, IL died on December 12, 2020.

She was born on March 18, 1916, in Evanston, IL, the only child of Ernest Alfred Poole and Ada Louise Rowley’s seven children to be born in the USA. Amy married Alvin (Ben) Ernest Nieman on July 8, 1936, in Evanston, IL; He passed in July 1979. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed parties and picnics with them. Amy and Ben spent summer vacations with their children at their cottage in Conover, WI. Over the years she knit and crocheted Afghans for all of her children, grandchildren, and brothers. She worked for the Bell Telephone Company in offices in Evanston, Wilmette, and Winnetka and for the Evanston School District as an operator. She and Ben retired to Mt. Home, AR and then to Clinton, IL before returning to Crystal Lake, IL.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Jay) Adler of Rockford; her sons, Bruce (Doris) Nieman of Topsham, ME, and Robert David Nieman of Crystal Lake, IL; her grandchildren, Kathleen Adler, Gina (Jim) Wilcox, Marcy Cottle, Jeanne Kent, Michelle (Jim) Valzone, and Brad Owen Nieman; her great grandchildren, Molly Milligan, Jackson Wilcox, Brynn Cottle, Marco Valzone, and Jayson Valzone. Amy was predeceased by her son, Allan Ernest Nieman; her brothers, Ernest, Cedric, MacDonald, Archie, Cyril; and her sister, Marion.

A walk thru visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108, with a funeral service to follow. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights, IL on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
