Ann Marie Zamis

Ann was born October 10, 1912 in Chicago, IL to Anna and John Rappold. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Anthony Zamis. She is survived by her three children, Leonore Lanka, Pater A. Zamis, and Marie Zamis. Ann had 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. As the daughter of Lithuanian immigrants, Ann was taught to work hard, be frugal and to love and appreciate the United States. Active in community organizations such as Republican Womans Club, Rockford Garden Club and Newcomers Club, Ann was always willing to help her neighbors, family and friends. Painting, bridge and gardening were her hobbies. Being an artist was a passion since childhood. After raising her children, she returned to her easel in her 50s and created many excellent paintings during the next 45 years. Her motto was "it is never too late to do what you want to do." She had a way of making her surroundings beautiful through her paintings or with flowers from her garden placed in the rooms of her home. The Zamis family is especially grateful for the love and nurturing of Ann by her daughter, Marie, who always provided peace, love and security for her parents. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and appreciated receiving communion at home when she was no longer able to get to church. We thank Holy Family for their support. Thank you to Northern Illinois Hospice and her caregiver, Brenda, who loved and nurtured her during her final journey. Anns celebration of life will be a private family ceremony.
