Barbara A. Pierce

Barbara Ann Taphorn Pierce, 96, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018. She was born September 10, 1921, in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Julia (Connors) Taphorn. Barbara attended St. Patrick Grade School and Muldoon High School class of 1939. She married the love of her life, Robert Pierce, November 2, 1946. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, serving on many committees throughout the years. Barbara was known for her sense of humor and as a social butterfly, saying “hi there” to everyone she met. She was a member of the Silver Shamrocks and was the 2002 Catholic Woman of the Year for St. Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family. Barbara will be forever remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Survived by her son, Larry (Dee) Pierce; daughter, Julie Otts; grandchildren, Allison (Erin) Stein-Pierce, Kathleen (Ann) Bloomfield-Pierce, Mary (Rachel) Rubenstein, Amy Otts, Barbara Otts, Troy Pierce and Tabitha Pierce; great grandchildren, Joe, Ben, Delaney and Evelyn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Robert; son, Dan; daughter-in-law, Laurie; sisters, Catherine, Martha and Mary; and brother, Jack. The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at River Bluff Nursing Home.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave, Rockford, IL 61103. Visitation will from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
