Barbara "Barbie" A. Hughes

Barbara Ann “Barbie” Hughes passed away Friday, May 27, 2022, surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Barbara was born January 15, 1960, In Rockford, IL, the daughter to Phyllis (Waldsmith) and Patrick J. Hughes, Sr. Barbara was the family ambassador and was a social butterfly. She never met a stranger and never forgot a name. Barbara lit up the room and touched so many people. Barbara attended Olson School of Hope and graduated from Page Park School. She participated in many programs throughout her life such as Camp Sunshine and Illinois Growth Enterprises. Barbara was a very proud Special Olympian and loved showing off her many medals. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

Barbara is survived by her beloved mother, Phyllis; siblings, Linda (Sam) Pirrello, Diane Horn, Patrick J. Hughes, Jr. and Larry (Juli Zanocco) Hughes; nieces and nephews, Alex, Matt, Joe, Liz, Tony; several great nieces and nephews and great-great nephews. Barbara is preceded in death by her father, Patrick J. Hughes, Sr.; infant sister, Lori; sister, Colleen; paternal grandparents, Fred and Isabel Hughes; maternal grandparents, Cecil and Clara Waldsmith; brother-in-law Milt Horn. The family would like to thank the staff of PA Peterson at the Citadel and Northern Illinois Hospice for their care and compassion.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. 2nd Street. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Church.
