Barbara E. Nicholson, 92, lifelong Rockford resident, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Lincolnshire Place Memory Care. Born November 16, 1923, daughter of Percy and Burtie (Joy) Webster. Graduated from West High School in 1941. Married Orman M. “Red” Nicholson on January 17, 1942. She had worked at Lincoln Park school and Shumway Market, then spent 30 years working alongside her husband at Nicholson Electric. She was a former member of the Moose Club and bowled for many years. She loved to play cards and was a longtime member of a poker club. Barbara was an excellent seamstress who made most of her daughters’ clothes including their wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses. She received recognition for volunteering over 3500 hours during her thirty years at Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was a volunteer for Klehm Arboretum and spent seven years as a volunteer for OSF Saint Anthony's Medical Center.
Survivors include her daughters, Diana (Allan) Hoover, Sherry (R. Terry) Murphy and Rebecca (Thomas) Harvey; grandchildren, Todd (Wendy) Hoover, Troy Hoover, Chad (special friend Jennifer) Hoover, Lisa Murphy, Theresa Murphy, Tim (Christine) Murphy, Eron (Cindy) Harvey and Courtney (Dan) Anderson; 21 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; special sister-in-law Maxine “Mickey” Heller, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband, parents, twin sister, Bernice Cantu and brother Ronald (Anna) Webster, and special friend Kenneth Clayton.
Memorial service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, December 11, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL. 61103. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 AM to time of service at the funeral home. A private burial will be at a later date.
