Barbara F. Wixom

Barbara Berg Johnson Wixom, 82, Rockford, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013, in her home following a lengthy illness. She was born January 3, 1930, in Rockford, the daughter of Harold and Verienna Berg. Barb was a 1947 graduate of Rockford West High School. She worked as the office manager for A.H. Puffer Co. for many years. Barb is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered as a tutor in the Rockford public schools and was a volunteer at the Rock River Valley Pantry. She enjoyed traveling, working in her flower garden, and was an avid reader. Barb was involved in the Loon watch and spent many days at the family cottage in Minocqua, Wisconsin.She is survived by her husband, Paul; sons, Steven (Mary) Johnson of Newport Beach, California and Dan (Gail) Johnson of Rockford; her granddaughter, Sabrina Johnson of Laguna Beach, California; her step children, Paul (Denise) Wixom and Lisa (Brian) Wixom Meade, both of Rockford; her stepgrandchildren, Devin and Lindsey Wixom; her dog, Lady and her cat Cleo. She was predeceased by her stepson, Patrick Wixom, on October 16, 1987; her parents; her brothers, Howard and Bill Berg; her sisters, Mary Jane Berg Magoon and Marjory Berg. The family would like to thank OSF Hospice and Barbs caregiver, Irena Nikolaidi for their kind and compassionate care. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, January 7, 2013, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend Jay Quinn, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Visitation from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm, Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the funeral home and from 1:00 pm until time of service on Monday. Private family burial in Arlington Memorial Park at a later date.
