Betty Jean Schaffer

Betty Jean (Buchanan) Schaffer, 87 of Rockford, IL passed away Thursday, August 13, 2020 at home surrounded by family. She was born in Catron, MO on October 7, 1932 to David and Pearl (Rice) Buchanan. Betty loved doing word search puzzles, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren on Spider Lake in Mercer, WI. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life.

She is survived by her children, Rick (Linda) Schaffer, Dan (Marilyn Pomering) Schaffer, John (Patty) Schaffer, Teleda (Jerry) Westhouse, Carrie (Aleck) Rinaldo; grandchildren, Gabrielle Schaffer, Chris Schaffer, Priscilla Morgan, Jonas Schaffer, Jeremy Schaffer, Nathan Dill, Geri Neeb, Jessica Deasy, Stacie Westhouse-Milam; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth Schaffer, Bonnie Kaminsky, Joe Buchanan, Jimmy Buchanan. She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter Angela Schaffer; daughter- in-law Becky Schaffer; and siblings, Orville Buchanan, Lee Buchanan, Jesse Buchanan, Donnie Buchanan, Essie Willis, Della England and Mary Knight.

A Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory- Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd, Rockford, IL 61108, with Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL. Those in attendance for any of the services will be required to wear masks and social distance.
