Betty Lou Holcomb, 84, Rockford, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at the Villa at P.A. Peterson Home. She was born May 2, 1932, in Rensselaer, IN, the daughter of George and Violet (Dahlgren) Thompson. Betty married Keith Holcomb in Rockton on October 31, 1953. He was Betty’s hero and the love of her life. She worked at Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company for 25 years and then for Control Panels, Inc. for 15 years. Betty was a member of the Rockford United Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing blankets for babies over many years. Betty was an avid Cubs fan. Above all, Betty loved spending time with her family.
Survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Keith; her sons, Reverend Harry (Alice) Holcomb and Mark (Shelia) Holcomb, both of Rockford; her grandchildren, Arielle (James) Evans, Alyssa (Daniel) Bird, and Heidi (Kyle) Ritter; her great-grandchildren, Levi and Silas Evans, and Cuyler and Avery Bird; her sister-in-law, Jeanette Thompson of Rockford; numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends. Predeceased by her parents, her sister Doris Adkins and her brothers, Ralph and Rick Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Berean Baptist Church, 5626 Safford Rd., Rockford, with Pastors Mark Swanson and Wayne Hodge and her son, Pastor Harry Holcomb officiating. Burial in Burritt Township Cemetery. Visitation from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av, Rockford and from 10:00 A.M. until time of service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials to Rockford United Baptist Woman’s Missionary Society in Betty’s name.
