Carmella C. Boreen

Carmella C. "Millie" Boreen, 86, Rockford, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born December 10, 1924 in Rockford, daughter of Joseph and Carmela (Faranna) Barberi. Graduated from Muldoon High School in 1943. Married Iver J. Boreen in Colorado Springs, CO on September 18, 1943. He died in 1980. Carmella and Iver resided in Duluth, MN where she worked in a factory soldering parts for jet aircraft. After that she became a hairdresser and owned her own salon. She enjoyed golf, oil painting and her poodle Jacques. Carmella attended daily Mass in Rockford at St. Bernadette and at Cor Mariae. Prayers were always a big part of her life. She enjoyed bingo, lunch outings, Red Hatters Club, coffee group after Sunday Mass and walks outside. Carmella was appreciative and complimentary toward her nurses, CNAs and all staff in activities, housekeeping, maintenance and dietary. Her patience in accepting her physical limitations was inspiring. Survivors include her children, John M. (Lynn) Boreen, Rockford and Mary Grace Boreen, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Sarah, Mark and Carol Boreen and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, parents, brothers, James and Carl Barber and sisters, Catherine Nadolny and Freda Domico. The Boreen family would like to extend special thanks to the nursing staff of Provena Cor Mariae Center for their supportive care and to the medical staff at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center for their excellent care during her most recent illness. Carmella, you will be greatly missed by all of your family and friends.A Mass of Celebration will be held at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2011 in the chapel of Provena Cor Mariae Center with Rev. Michael Librandi officiating. Visitation from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Private family burial in Calvary Cemetery, Duluth, MN on Monday, March 28.
