Carolyn Ray Ragsdale, 96, Rockford, died Friday, February 17, 2012 in Wesley Willows.nbsp; Born February 3, 1916 in Baraboo, Wisconsin.nbsp; She was the daughter of Benjamin and Ada (Peers) Ray.nbsp; She moved with her family to Rockford at an early age.nbsp; She graduated from Central High School in Rockford and Rockford

nbsp;College.nbsp; She taught home economics and Latin at Forreston, Illinois High School where she met her future husband, Ralph L. Ragsdale.nbsp; They were married in Rockford on August 23, 1941.nbsp; She worked for a few years as a teacher of homebound students after her own children were in school.nbsp; She volunteered for many years as a Pink Lady at Rockford Memorial Hospital, and was also an active member and volunteer at Second Congregational Church.nbsp; Carolyn and Ralph enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing cards, and watching sports. She was also an avid swimmer, knitter, dog and cat lover, and flower gardener.nbsp; Carolyn loved music and played the piano and cello.nbsp; She was always supportive of her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Paterson of Rockford and Helen Ragsdale of Madison, Wisconsin and her son, Stephen (Deborah) Ragsdale, of Caledonia; her grandchildren David (Meredith) Paterson of Rockford and Susan Paterson of Silverthorne, Colorado; her greatgrandchildren, Jacob and Allison Paterson of Rockford.nbsp; She was predeceased by her husbanad, Ralph, in 1990; her parents; her brothers, Lawrence and Peers (Mary Elizabeth) Ray; her sister, Helen Ray; and her soninlaw, Lawrence Paterson.nbsp;

Memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Second Congregational Church with Rev. Dr. J. Michael Solberg officiating.nbsp; Memorial visitation from 57 p.m. Tuesday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. and from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Second Congregational Church.
