Charlene M. Doherty

Charlene M. Doherty, 82, of Rockford, IL passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018.

Charlene was born October 9, 1936 in Cloquet, MN, daughter of Nello and Frances Catalani and Myrtle Bodel. She married Harry J. Doherty on June 6, 1959 in Rockford, IL. Charlene graduated Muldoon High School, Class of 1954 and St. Anthony School of Nursing in 1957. After graduating from nursing school, she became employed at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center for over 30 years. Charlene was a longtime member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, where she also served as a Eucharistic minister for many years. She was involved in the card club for many years with her husband, Harry, along with a monthly pot luck group. Throughout her life, Charlene especially enjoyed quilting, reading, crossword puzzles, baking and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her family was everything to her. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include her loving husband, Harry J. Doherty; 4 children, Susan Burrows (Jeffrey Currie), Kenneth (Linda) Doherty, Catherine (Christopher) Misci and Christopher (Beth) Doherty; grandchildren, Ian, Lauren, Bradley, Anthony, Nicholas, Anna, Matthew and Jacob; one great-grandson, Rocky; several nieces and nephews; 2 sisters, Wendy Catalani-Davies (Jerome Willegal) and Adele (William) Cooper; brother, Edward Catalani. She is predeceased by her parents and little brother, Jimmy Catalani.

Celebration of the Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church with Reverend Kenneth Stachyra officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 and also on Wednesday, November 7, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL 61103. Burial will conclude in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Rockford Rescue Mission.
