Charles A. McAnarney, 79, Rockford, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in his home. Born February 25, 1929 in Reading, Kansas, son of Harry E. and Helen E. (OMara) McAnarney. Married Shirley Haag in Reading on December 27, 1951. Graduated from Reading High School in 1946, attended Kansas University and received his bachelors and masters degrees from Emporia State University. He began his career as a teacher and coach in LaMont, Kansas then was superintendent of the Princeton, Kansas School System and assistant superintendent of the Garden Plain, Kansas School System. He came to Rockford in 1968 and retired in 1991 from the Rockford School District as Director of Purchasing and Transportation. Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict in Austria where he was secretary to the Commanding General. Member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He had also been a member of the Lions Club and served as president of the Purchasing Managers Association of Rockford. Survivors include his children, James A. (Marcia) McAnarney, Wichita, KS, Gregory A. (Elythia) McAnarney, Albuquerque, NM, Bradley A. (Janet) McAnarney, Chippewa Falls, WI, Larry F. (Linda) McAnarney, Monroe Center, IL. and Ann P. (Chris) Cotter, Wichita, KS. Also survived by grandchildren, Jeff, Jenna, Jaclyn and Jordon McAnarney, Julie (Cale) Carson, Erin and Brianna McAnarney, Kelly (Kasey) Lemke, Christine McAnarney, Troy (Larissa) McAnarney, Kali and Kacey McAnarney and Abbey and Eric Cotter; great-grandchildren, Taylor Ann Carson, Parker Carson and Haven McAnarney; brother, Harry McAnarney, Bloomington, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife on November 26, 2004, parents; brothers, James and Leonard and a sister who died in infancy, Alice Kathryn McAnarney. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2008 in Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Andrew Hougan officiating. Entombment in Calvary Mausoleum. Visitation from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Visitation also from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice amp; Grief Center, 4215 Newburg Rd. Rockford, IL. 61108 or Mir House of Prayer, 6492 NE State Route No.6, St. Joseph, MO. 64507.
