Charles Greene, 76
Rockford – Charles Greene, 76, departed this earthly life on Thursday, February 25, 2016 after a brief illness. He was born August 25,1939 in Winchester Kentucky, the son of Robert and Josephine (Dunlap) Greene. He graduated from Winchester High School in 1957. He married Gloria Jackson in Clinton, IA on September 17, 1966. They moved to the Rockford area where he worked for Chrysler Corporation as a Utility Inspector for 35 years, retiring in 2001. Charles was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, gardening, golfing and watching the Chicago Bears.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Gloria, daughters Kelly Greene; Rockford, IL and Leslie (Roy) Purifoy, Rockton, IL; grandchildren Jayda Jackson, Roy and Renae Purifoy. Brothers; Nathaniel and Paul Greene, Clinton, IA and sisters Mildred Greene, Suffolk, VA and Johnnie Mae Julian, Lexington, KY along with numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1703 S. Central Ave., Rockford, IL 61102 with the Rev. Kenneth R. Board officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory. A second visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
