The Lord came to take Charles E. Melander, home on Monday, February 28, 2011 in P.A. Peterson Center For Health.nbsp; Born June 7, 1927 in Omaha, nbsp;NE, son of Joel and Myrtle (Swanson) Melander.nbsp; Spent most of his high school years at Benson High School in Omaha, but graduated from West High School in Rockford.nbsp; Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.nbsp; He married Donna Peterson on October 15, 1949 in Rockford. She died the day after their 50 th wedding anniversary in 1999. On September 1, 2001 he married Lorraine (Bliese) Bruns and she survives him.nbsp; Member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was active in their Seniors Group.nbsp; He was employed by Camcar Textron for 32 years beginning in 1962 and finishing his career with them as a Manufacturers Representative operating out of Florida handling ordinance industry accounts, both foreign and domestic.nbsp; He then became an independent rep in Florida from 1980 until he gradually retired. nbsp;Chuck enjoyed golfing and was a long time member of a couples league.nbsp; He loved gardening, planting numerous trees and shrubs, swimming, fishing, boating and traveling.nbsp; He especially loved the trips to Ixtapa, Mexico with Lorraine and their families as well as severalnbsp; Elder Hostel retreats. He was a loyal Cubs fan and was a good grandfather who supported his grandchildrens activities and sporting events.nbsp; He was soft spoken and always had a smile on his face.nbsp; Chuck could be described as a kind gentleman and gentle man.
Survived by his wife, Lorraine Bruns; daughters, Linda White, Cocoa Beach, FL and Deb (Mike) Boland Rockford; step-son, Steve Bruns Ramsey, MN; step-daughters, Gretchen Olson, Des Moines, IA, Nancy Johnson, Rockford, Cheryl (Reid) Johnson, Rockford, Diane (Steve) Smart, Hudson, WI, grandchildren, Nathan (Brandi) White, Hendersonville, NC, Lauren (Michael) Wood Vero Beach, FL, Matthew (Liz McGohon) Lotzer, Lexington, KY, Blake (Marni) Lotzer and Rob Lotzer, Chicago, IL; step-grandchildren, Erin (Derek) Kiley and Sean Boland, Rockford; great-grandchildren, Elijah White and Carter Boland;8 step grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren from Lorraines side of the family: brother, Richard (Betty Lou) Melander, Broomfield, CO; sister, Joanne (Myron) Anderson, Rockford; brother-in-law, George Blomgren, Rockford and numerous nieces and nephews.nbsp; Also predeceased by his parents; brothers, Donald and Robert Melander and sister, Dorothy Blomgren.
Funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 in Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Rev. Woody Knutson officiating.nbsp; Visitation fromnbsp; 9 a.m. until time of the service.nbsp; Private burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Rock Youth Group of Our Saviors nbsp;Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donors choice.nbsp; The family would like to thank the numerous care givers during Chucks rehab and also to Dr. Joseph Ross for his tender and thorough care.
