Charles T. ""Chuck"" Englund, 80, of Rockford went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2008 in his home surrounded by his family. Chuck was born June 8, 1927 in Rockford the son of Carl and Marian (Conway) Englund. Chuck married Veletta Hamilton on March 20, 1948 at St. Patrick Church. Chuck graduated from West High School in 1945 and had worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 51 years until retiring in 1998. ""The Post Office was his life!"" He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Chuck was a member of St. Peter Cathedral, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, National Association of Letter Carriers and was a huge Chicago Cubs, Bears fan and an avid golfer.. Chuck is survived by his wife, Veletta; his children, Tom (Debbie) Englund of Roscoe, IL, Karen (Steve) Hinde of Rockford, Nancy (Bruno) Yankus of Dade City, FL, Diane (Pat) Solon of Machesney Park, Dave (Joanne) Englund of Austin, TX, Jim (Marci) Englund of Lansdale, PA, Charlie Englund of Rockford, Susan Englund of Madison, WI, Bill (Lori) Englund of Rockford, John (Sophie) Englund of Paris, France and Sarah (Keven) Pierce of Naperville, IL; his grandchildren, Ryan and Lisa Englund, John, Brian, and Eric Hinde, Matthew Yankus, Wendy Abbey, Heather McBride, Heath Solon, Julia, Michael, Laura, Natalie, Amy, Samuel and Charlie Englund, and Alex and Molly Pierce; his great-grandchildren, Morgan, Riley and Cameron McBride, Justin Abbey and many nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Englund. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 10 AM at Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N. Church St. with Fr. Ken Wasilewski officiating followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 15 from 5 PM 7 PM at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. and on Wednesday from 9 AM 9:45 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Poor Clares Monastery, 2111 S. Main St. Rockford, IL 61102 or Northern Illinois Hospice & Grief Center, 4215 Newburg Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Family and friends may extend condolences online at www.fitzgeraldfuneralhome.com.
