Corrine Evelyn "Connie" (Brown) Cogswell, 93, of Rockford passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012. Born in Rockford on March 7, 1919 to George W. and Jeanette (Bainbridge) Brown, she was a direct descendant of Mowrey Brown, the early settler of Rockford whose house is on display at Midway Village. Connie graduated from Rockford Central High School in 1936 and then worked as a secretary at Barnes Drill Company where she met the love of her life, H. Laverne Cogswell. They were married on May 27, 1939 in Court Street United Methodist Church. Connie formerly served on the board of directors at the Rockford Womens Club, the Rockford Day Nursery and Wesley Willows. She was a former President of the United Methodist Women of Court Street Church, a member of its Esther Circle and a former President of the Rockford PEO (Chapter FV). Additional memberships include: Daughters of the Nile (Alabet Temple), the Latham Park Garden Club, and she was an avid golfer at Forest Hills Country Club and later at Mack Town Golf Course. During her lifetime, she enjoyed horseback riding, golfing, dancing, gardening, needlepoint, walking, boating, traveling, but mostly time spent with family and friends. Connie is survived by her 2 sons, Gary (Joanne) Cogswell of Moultonborough, NH and Roger (Christine) Cogswell of Chaplin, SC; her daughter, Janice (James) Kunkle of Rochester, IL.; a sister, Joyce Wheatcroft of Connell, WA; 7 grandchildren, Todd Cogswell, Brent Cogswell, Mitchell Cogswell, Gina Hopkins, Michelle Ashby, Chad Kunkle, and Jennifer Moore; 13 greatgrandchildren, Chelsea, Hayley, Marisa, Ryan, Bryce, Colton and Makenzie Cogswell, Ellie and Grace Ashby, Ethan, Evelyn and Amelia Hopkins and Cameron Moore; 6 nephews and 1 niece.She was predeceased by her parents and husband as well as her 5 brothers; Reynold, Bernard, Stanton, Walter and Robert and her daughterinlaw, Carole S. Cogswell. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Court Street United Methodist Church, 215 N. Court St. with Rev. Calvin Culpepper officiating. Visitation is on Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 2 PM 4 PM at Fitzgerald Funeral home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 North Rockton Ave. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
