David John "Butch" Davenport

June 17, 1944 — June 21, 2015

David John “Butch” Davenport, 71, Rockford, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015, in his home. He was born June 17, 1944, in Beloit, Wisconsin, the son of David and Mildred “Peg” (Bagby) Davenport. His family moved to Rockton when he was 5 years old. After graduating from Hononegah High School in the class of 1962, he served in the Army Reserves. David married Jane Ann Bonzi in Rockton on October 22, 1965. He drove semi-trucks over 40 years for Cecil White Produce, Todd Transit, G & D Integrated, Estes Express and Fab Express retiring in 2012. David then worked part time for Schnucks in the produce department at the Charles Street store. David was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a die-hard Bears fan, loved fishing and playing golf. He especially enjoyed the annual family vacations to Shawano Lake in Cecil, Wisconsin.
Survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Jane; his son, David Louis Davenport; his brother, Gerald D. Davenport; his sister-in-law, Nancy Davenport; many nieces and nephews; and his special pals, his dogs Marley and Max and his cat, Milo.
Predeceased by his parents, his sister, Carolee Gums; his brother, Michael Davenport; his brother-in-law, David Gums.
Services will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family.
