David S. Doig

July 20, 1954 — November 21, 2012

David S. Doig 58, died Wednesday, November 21, 2012 in the comfort of his own home. Born in Rockford on July 20, 1954, son of Malcolm and Eileen Hyland Doig. Graduated from Guilford High School in 1972 where he played on the baseball team and achievednbsp;a pitching record that has yet to be broken. He attended the University of South Florida in Tampa. Married Johanna M.Oakes in Rockford on December 4, 1982. He was the owner of Doig Decorations Inc. He was an exceptional painter andnbsp;extremely passionate about his work. Every job he did created life long friendships. His profession extended into the Christmas lighting business. He was best known for lighting up the Village of Cherry Valley.

David got his start in business with the family owned Cherry Valley Sign Co. He was a member of St. Ritas Church, Cherry Valley Area Mens Club and the American Legion Club, Carlson Post 1207. He loved Christmas, helping Toys for Tots, Hope for Haitians and Andy Williams. His beautiful blue eyes and quick wit endeared him to all who knew him. Davids dignity continued through his short journey with cancer. We love you David!

Survivors include his wife, Jana: mother, Eileen Doig; brother, Malcolm C. Doig; sisters, Debbie (Jim) Rheingans nbsp;and Marcia (Mark) Wittwer;nieces and nephews, Lindsey (Dan) Loyson, Jack and Ciel Rheingans,Michael and Michelle Wittwer; Sean Oakes, Diana and Danielle Oakes; great niece, Leah Loyson; great nephews, Gavin Loyson and Jack Rheingans; brothersinlaw; Tom (Karen) Oakes and David (Mary) Oakes; father and motherinlaw, Wayne and Margaret Oakes; Aunt Rose and several aunts and uncles and cousins. Predeceased by his father, Malcolm, nephew, Matthew Wittwer, niece Crystal Doig and Davids and Janas babies that were not to live long enough to be born.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday December 1, 2012 in St. Ritas Catholic Church. Visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. The celebration of Davids life will continue at Franchescos following the service. In lieu of flowers, keep David in your hearts and prayers. Arrangements were completed by Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
