Dennis Dettman 61 of Rockford passed away Wednesday February 2, 2011 in Rockford Memorial Hospital.nbsp; Dennis was born June 20, 1949 in Sterling Illinois, the son of Lloyd and Irene Dettman.nbsp; He married Debra Stewart in Sterling, IL on November 3, 1967.
Loving husband to Debbie, his soulmate, who adored him for 43 years; father of seven children Michelle (Larry) King; Dave Dettman; Jennifer Macek; Matt Dettman (Tina Fetters Sean (Natasha) Dettman; Andrew (Heidi) Dettman; Joshua Dettman (Crystal Schneberger grandfather of eight (Riley, Parker, Aurora, Makenzie, Sarah, Kora, Frankie, and Cal, as well as Derik (Nicole) King, Kati King, and Keaton Fulkrod; great-grandfather to James; and mentor to so many more. Survived also by his parents, Lloyd and Irene Dettman; his brothers Dann, Dave, Dana; and several nieces and nephews.nbsp; He was predeceased by his sister Dennice, nephew Casey, and his grandparents Rudy and Gladys.nbsp; He coached Pony League baseball for 25 years, played softball for over 30 years with the same group of good friends, taught Sunday school and ushered at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, volunteered many hours as a Friend of Lockwood Childrens Farm, and was employed by Cincinnati Mag.nbsp; He was known as the neighborhood mechanic and could fix anything. He has filled the homes of many family and friends with his beautiful hand-crafted furniture and their lives with beautiful memories.nbsp; Though he was a man of few words, he said so much and inspired his children, his family, his friends, and anyone he met with his patience, kindness, and generosity.nbsp; He knew the value of a hard days work as well as the value of taking time to enjoy life.nbsp; He was never too busy to help a friend or join them for a sporting event.nbsp; From Denny we learned the measure of a man.nbsp; May his memory continue to inspire all of us to help anyone in need, treasure family, value friends, and enjoy life.
Memorial Service at 12:00pm Monday February 7, 2011 in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd with Rev.
