Dominic J Savala

Dominic J. Savala of Rockford passed away Saturday July 13, 2013 in Rockford Memorial Hospital . He was born October 6, 1928 in Freeport , the son of Dominic and Sarah Savala. He attended from West High School . He married Orpha Dull on September 2, 1951 in St. Patrick Church, Rockford . Dominic worked at Standquist Motors as service manager for 48 years and also for the Winnebago County Sheriff Department. He was a member of St Bernadette Church and also was on The Italian Festa Committee for 25 years. Dominic was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, loved to work with cars, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Survivors include his wife Orpha. Son, Dave Savala of Evergreen, CO. Grandchildren, Melissa Gilbertson of St Petersburg , FL and Ashley Gilbertson of Dubuque , IA. Brother, Robert Savala of Rockford. Predeceased by his parents and daughter Nancie Gilbertson in 2012. Memorial Mass at 10am Friday July 19, 2013 in St Bernadette Catholic Church with Father Ken Stachyra officiating. Visitation from 9am until 9:45 Friday in the church.
