Donald F. Hajek, 78

Donald F. Hajek, 78, Rockford, IL passed away December 13, 2014 at Wesley Willows surrounded by loving family. Born December 25, 1935 in Chicago, IL, to Frank and Evelyn (Czerwin) Hajek. Donald graduated from Morton High School in Cicero, IL, and received his bachelor’s degree and M.D. from Northwestern University. He interned at Minneapolis General Hospital and did his residency at VA Lakeside in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1963 and continued his service with 5 years in the Reserves. Donald married Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Lange on September 1, 1962. In 1968 Donald and Beth moved to Rockford where they raised their family. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Donald was employed with Canfield Clinic and SwedishAmerican Health System as a Physician in Hematology and Oncology. He was a founding board member of Northern Illinois Hospice and was involved in many aspects of the organization for 19 years. He served as board president and Medical Director during that time.

In addition, he enjoyed fishing, bird watching and seeing his grandchildren grow up. He touched many people's lives in a positive way, even during the worst of times.

Survivors include his wife, Beth; sons, Douglas (Jill) Hajek, Scott (Lauren) Hajek; daughters, Laurel (Craig) Anderson and Mary Lynn Hajek; grandchildren Delaney, Ethan, Matthew and Ryan; sister Janet (Brian) Vancata. Predeceased by his parents.


Funeral service will be 12 pm Friday, December 19, 2014 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, Il. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service.
