Donald " Don " J. Williams, 87, Rockford passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.Born January 11, 1924 in Ladd, IL; the son of Harry C. and Marguerite ( Murphy ) Williams.Married Edna M. Pro at St. Anthonys Catholic Church on June 25, 1949. He was an Army Veteran serving during W.W. II as a member of the 704 Tank Destroyer in Europe form 19431946. Don worked for the U.S. Post Office as a manager of vehicle maintenance and operations, retiring in 1979 after 31 years.Member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and St. Ambrogio Society.Don was an avid fisherman who enjoyed traveling and taking vacations to Balsam Lake, WI.He is survived by his wife, Edna; daughter Marsha Verken; son, Robert( Mary) Williams; Grandchildren, Andy and Chrissy Cantrell and Rosie and Mike Williams; greatgrandchildren, Scarlett Cantrell and Wesley Lee; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond and Kenneth; sister, Delores Drehoble and brotherinlaw, Jim Drehoble. Funeral Mass at10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 1010 Ferguson St. Visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at Church. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
