Doris Elizabeth Peters

Doris Elizabeth Holly Peters, 90, of Rockford died peacefully Feb. 20, 2009 in Rockford. Born Feb. 14, 1919 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Benjamin and Edith (Noyes) Holly. She attended Grinnell College and Pratt Institute of Art. She married Hans Peters on Apr. 4, 1942 in Princeton, Mo. and they became Quakers in Des Moines. In 1951 they moved to Rockford and were founding members of Rock Valley Friends Meeting. Doris was very active in Quaker endeavors locally and state-wide. She was also an artist and taught and shared art with many people both young and old through Friends House and Camaraderie Arts. Survivors include daughter Ann (Brent) Eckert of Rockford; sons John Peters of San Francisco, Calif., Stephan Peters of Rockford; stepson Till (Bernice) Peters of Grand Rapids, Mich.; daughter-in-law Marian Peters of Rockford; grandchildren Michael (Karen) Kerr, Stephen Kerr, Corwin Peters, Aaron (Terri) Peters, and Alice Peters; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Predeceased by husband Hans Peters; sister Barbara (Bruce) Neal; son Wallace Peters; stepson Michael (Kathleen) Peters; and great grandson Ian Kerr. Memorial service will be held Sat., Mar. 14, at 11:00 am at JustGoods Community Room, 201 Seventh St., Rockford, IL 61104.
