Doris Kathryn Tierney (nee Haines), 95, of Fox Lake, Illinois died November 8, 2009 at her home after a short illness.

Doris was born December 2, 1913 to Curtis Haines and Ellennore Larson in Deland, Illinois. She moved from central Illinois to Chicago and finally to Fox Lake where she has continued to live from 1930 until her death. After a 10 year courtship during the Depression, she married Matthew William Tierney on April 29, 1939 at Saint Bede Catholic Church. She and her husband Matt raised their three children and cared for their home and garden. She worked as a cook at Grant Community High School in Fox Lake for 20 years.

She is survived by her son, Reverend Michael Tierney of Algonquin, Illinois, her daughter Patricia Kolian of Vernon Hills, Illinois, her sister-in-law Violet Monkman, her son-in-law Fred Hunter (Ellen), her grandsons Matthew Hunter, Jeffrey (Amy) Hunter, Gregory Hunter and her great granddaughter Tierney Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Ellennore Haines, her stepfather Albert Monkman, her brothers, Curtis Wray Haines, Wesley Monkman, and Theodore Monkman, her loving husband of 50 years Matthew Tierney, her daughter Kathryn Bridget Hunter, and her grandson Mark Kolian.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 PM on Thursday, November 12, 2009 and from 9 AM until time of Mass on Friday, November 13, in the Bethany Lobby of Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 111 South Hubbard Street, Algonquin, Illinois. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday with burial in St. Patrick Cemetery in McHenry. Masses may be offered for her and donations may be made to Saint Margaret Mary Church.
