Dorothy Angelina Jenkins

August 23, 1919 — December 5, 2017

Dorothy Angelina Jenkins, 98, of Rockford was called home by her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. Dorothy was born on August 23, 1919 in Rockford. She married Chester Jenkins on December 26, 1948 in St. Anthony of Padua in Rockford, and together they enjoyed 66 wonderful years. He predeceased her November 14, 2015.

Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great¬-grandmother, she lived for her family. She took pride in spending time with her grandchildren and carrying on family traditions with the new generation of great grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and could make others smile. Dorothy was passionate about baking and cooking and she and Chester enjoyed spending time in the kitchen making many pots of sugo and meatballs and a wide variety of Italian cookies. She also enjoyed ceramics, sewing and crafting.

Dorothy was a life-long member of St. Bernadette's Church where she and Chester worshiped faithfully and volunteered assisting with many funeral luncheons for the parishioners. Dorothy was devoted to her faith.

Survivors include two children Charles (Pamela) of Rockford and Joyce (Frank) Ripley of Machesney Park, four grandchildren, Nina (James) Olson of Milwaukee, Riley (Ashley) Jenkins of Roscoe, Andrea Ripley of Loves Park and Barbara Ripley of Loves Park, great grandchildren, James Leo, Charles, Benjamin, Aria, Addison, Cashus, and Owen, sister-in-law, Valerine Jenkins of Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Santo and Antonina Lombardo, brothers Carmello, Joseph, George and Anthony Lombardo.

Special thanks to the staff of The Terrace, Rockford, Fair Oaks Health Care Center, So. Beloit and Northern Illinois Hospice.

Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2017 at St. Anthony of Padua, 1010 Ferguson St, Rockford, with entombment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation 9:30 to time of mass. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice or GiGi’s Playhouse (Rockford) in honor of her great granddaughter Aria.
