Dorothy Mae Goddard

Dorothy Mae Goddard, 91, Rockford, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012, at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Home. She was born July 12, 1920, in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edgar R. and Gladys M. (Jones) Stoneman. Dorothy married George G. Goddard in Madison, Wisconsin on August 17, 1940. George predeceased her January 16, 1996. After high school she worked in Madison at a soda fountain shop, then as a dental assistant, and later as a telephone operator transferring to Rockford in 1941 and retiring in 1945. Dorothy then stayed home to start her family until 1958, when she went to work as a clerk at Mary Lesters and eventually was promoted to district manager until 1980. She continued to work for Custom Kraft Vans making curtains until her final retirement in 1990. She was a member of Second Congregational Church of Christ where she was a Deaconess and volunteered in the churchs thrift shop until 2 years ago. Dorothy was a member of the Kings Daughters making quilts for children in Rockford Memorial Hospital, a member of the Red Hats, a member of the Winnebago County Association for Home and Community Education (WCAHCE) and a member and past President of Phi Sigma Alpha. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends for many years.Survived by her sons, Donald (Pattie) Goddard of San Jose, California and George "Mike" Goddard of Roscoe; grandchildren, Michael Goddard, Susanne (Jeremy) Sanders, Brian Goddard, Amy Goddard, Nicholas Goddard (greatgranddaughter, Ryeleigh Orr), Anna Goddard (greatgrandson, James, Jr. sister, Janet (Robert) Keenan of Oregon, Wisconsin; aunt, Genevieve Jackson of Fitchburg, Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by George, her husband of 56 years; son, William Goddard; brothers, Harold, Donald, and William Stoneman and sister, Edna Cross.Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 14, 2012, in Second Congregational Church of Christ, 318 North Church St. with Rev. Dr. J. Michael Solberg officiating. Private family burial at a later date. Visitation from 11:30 am until time of service Saturday, at the church.
