Durrell (Dee) E. Block 85Beloved Wife, Mom, Grandma, Sister and friend. On February 11th, 2012, Durrell (Dee) Elnore Block was taken from her loving family to be in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ after a courageous battle with Alzheimers disease. Durrell was born to Alfred and Mabel Block in Rockford, IL on June 15th, 1926. She graduated from West High school and went on to Rockford College to earn her B.A. After graduation, she worked full time as the Supervisor of the Chemistry Lab Department at Barber Coleman. She married Forest Block on May 12, 1950 and became a full time home maker. Durrell (Dee) was a very friendly, outgoing woman. She was always giving of herself to her family and others. She was involved in various types of ministries her whole life. She taught Vacation Bible and Sunday School at St. Paul Lutheran Church, was secretary for St. Mathews Lutheran church, a member of PEOChapter V, several knitting groups and Sinnissippi Quilters Guild. She had many hobbies and interests and was always involved in some sort of creative project. She created designs with her machine knitting and quilting. She started her own business, Dees Way Knitting selling knitting machines and yarn and giving lessons. Durrell enjoyed sewing clothing and quilting for herself and others, collecting dolls. As a young woman, she played the piano and played her harp for weddings and other events. She enjoyed learning new things, being outside in the warm weather and watching and listening to the birds. She loved animals. Durrell loved life and liked to try to find the positive side of things. She was a cheerful woman who enjoyed laughing and smiling. We will miss her very much as she has been such a part of our lives in so many positive ways. And we regret that the opportunity for her and her grandson to know each other was cut short.
