Elaine Scarbrough

Elaine Scarbrough, 69, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019.

Elaine was born October 17, 1949 in Chicago, IL, daughter of Lawrence and Irene (Gesiorski) Soja. She graduated St. Joseph’s High School of Chicago, IL. Elaine married the love of her life, James “Jim” Scarbrough on September 12, 1970 in Chicago. She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church of Rockford and a volunteer at O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center for many years. One of Elaine’s favorite pastimes was painting ceramics. Most of all, she loved her family, especially her great-grandson, Gavin. Elaine’s family meant the world to her and she will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Jim Scarbrough; children, Cherie (Alan) Wydeveld and Michelle (Kevin) Lock; grandchildren, Brandon Scarbrough, Mallory Gluting, Kodi, Jacob and Sean Lock, Andrea and Ryan Wydeveld; great-grandson, Gavin Scarbrough; brothers, Larry (Debbie) Soja, Mike (Cookie) Soja, Chris (Lynne) Soja, Tony (Sue) Soja; sister, Judy Martinez and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and brother, Timmy Soja.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February, 12, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rofkrod, IL 61108. A funeral mass will take place Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Drive, Rockford, IL 61109. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.

Memorial contributions may be made in Elaine’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
