Eleanor Adams Dunbar

November 8, 1927 — August 24, 2014

Eleanor Adams Dunbar, 86, formerly of Peoria, passed away August 24, 2014. Born November 8, 1927, the daughter of Wilbur and Florence (Enyart) Adams. She was married for almost 65 years to the love of her life, Lee H. Dunbar on October 15, 1949. She devoted her married life to the caretaking of her family. Through Lee's employment with Caterpillar, their family lived, worked and travelled to a number of cities throughout the world. Eleanor loved to cook and was a field editor for Taste of Home magazine where a few of her favorite recipes were used for publication. She was an active volunteer in a number of service organizations such as the Peoria Chapter of PEO. She put her sewing skills not only to personal use but to benefit the Service League of Methodist Medical Center in Peoria where she was a volunteer for many years and also served as the League President for a period of time. She was a long time member of United Presbyterian Church of Peoria. She was the strength of her family, guiding their lives with common sense, kindness, dignity and grace. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Martha (Todd) Berg of Roscoe; grandchildren, Melissa (Adam) Garcia of Villa Park, Michael Berg of Neenah, WI, Joshua Dunbar of Peoria and Latisha Hafelin of N. Brookfield, NY; great grandchildren, brother, Jon (Mary) Adams of Hailey, ID and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, her son, Howard Greer Dunbar and her husband, Lee. Cremation rites provide by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory of Rockford, IL. A service followed by a receptions to honor her live will be held at United Presbyterian Church, Peoria, on September 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to United Presbyterian Church.
