Elena L. Maggio

Elena L. Maggio, 84, Rockford passed away Friday, October 7, 2011, at Rockford Memorial Hospital.She was born August 3, 1927, in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of Nello and Anita Landi.She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. After graduating from Perkins School for the Blind in 1947, Elena worked as a Dictaphone typist for an adoption agency in Providence for 10 years. She then married Ted Maggio, Sr. in 1962.Elena was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the Notre Dame football and basketball teams.She enjoyed knitting, collecting recipes, listening to radio talk shows and visiting with her friends on the phone. Survived by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Ted Sr.; son, Ted Maggio, Jr. of Machesney Park; granddaughter, Victoria Maggio; brother, Robert (Celia) Landi, Sr. of Providence; nephew, Robert (Diane) Landi, Jr. and niece, Joanne (Ron) Patalano.Predeceased by her parents.Funeral service will be 11:00am, Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av.Visitation will be from 10:00am until time of service at the funeral home. Memorials to the family.
