Elizabeth C. Iasparro

October 24, 1943 — May 31, 2012

Elizabeth Catherine Iasparro, 68, of Rockford, was welcomed into eternity on May 31, 2012. Born October 24, 1943; the daughter of Michael and Theresa (Pumilia) Iasparro. Elizabeth graduated from West High School in 1962, and continued her studies at Northern Illinois University where she diligently earned both Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education. Upon receipt of her graduate credentials, Elizabeth returned to Rockford to embark upon her teaching career during a time when salaries were low, breaks almost nonexistent and the demands upon elementary educators stretched far beyond reading, writing and arithmetic. Elizabeth gave her heartandsoul to each of her students and believed that no child should be left behind decades before the phrase became part of the national consciousness. Elizabeths lifelong employment with District 205 began at Whig Hill Elementary School followed by positions at WestView, Nelson and Bloom Elementary Schools. No matter the presiding administration, new form of state testing, or popular educational buzzword, Liz made it her priority to master any challenge and provide incorporation in the most beneficial manner for the needs of her students. From day one, she was a proud member of the Rockford Education Association, supporter of all unions and countless charities. After 36 years of early mornings and late nights, red pens and bulletin boards, workbooks and rulers, sticky fingers and runny noses, Liz entered retirement. Her passion and zest for children, and an unmatched work ethic, motivated her to once again enter the schools in the official capacity of a Reading tutor, a discipline in which she excelled. Aunt Bet, the nickname she laughingly endured from her nieces, nephews and precious departed Michelle, was a lover of the simple joys in life. When not working to meticulously perfect her beautifully landscaped yard, Liz was an avid antiquehunter, worldtraveler, shopper for all things unique and the hostess of hundreds of family gatherings at her jewelbox of a home. Her interests were as complex as the weekly crossword puzzles and cryptograms which she valiantly completed. Her boundless affection for her close circle of friends and infinite love for her family, especially Little Richie and Baby Michael, were obvious to anyone who was fortunate enough to have experienced her beauty. Aunt Bet, because you will live in our hearts forever, you will never die. Survivors include her mother, Theresa Iasparro; sister, Theresa (Rich) Gambini; brother, Dominic (Pam) Iasparro; nephews, Richard (Lindsay) Gambini Jr. and Michael Iasparro; nieces, Michelle Gambini, Elizabeth (Ryan) Monahan and Cathleen Iasparro; great nephews, Richard Steven Gambini and Michael Aladino Monahan and numerous cousins and great friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Michael and her niece, Michelle Iasparro. Funeral Mass Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with interment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
