Elizabeth Betty Gibson, 68, of Loves Park died peacefully Monday December 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. Born May 23, 1944 in Deadwood, South Dakota, to Gerald and Ida Mae Gibson, she attended Chamberlain High School and graduated from South Dakota State. Betty received her certificate in laboratory medicine at OSF St. Anthony School of Medical Technology and was a certified Blood Bank Specialist (SBB). She worked as the Blood Bank Supervisor at St. Anthony before becoming the Executive Director of the Rock River Valley Blood Center until her retirement 6 years ago. She went on to work as a Blood Bank Software Consultant for four years. As a member of Christ United Methodist Church, she had an active role in leadership and volunteered for numerous mission programs. Betty was the former treasurer of Grace and Court Street United Methodist Church.She was also a dedicated CASA volunteer.Betty enjoyed traveling, reading, and knitting.Her main passion was LOVING and CARING for her family and extended family. Survivors include her lifelong friend Carol Fleming, aunt Audrey Euneau, sister Jean EdwardsKimura (Issac), nephew Joel Edwards, nephew Reed Gibson, niece TyLynn GibsonWenzel brother Bill Gibson, nephew George Hawxhurst, niece Cindy Hawxhurst and "grandbabies" Jessica and Logan Hawxhurst.Betty is preceded in death by parents and brother George Gibson.Services to be held 11 a.m. this Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church on Alpine and Highcrest.Memorial contributions are welcome at Christ United Methodist and Court Street United Methodist Church.Her family would like to thank Dr. Welford and his staff, OSF St. Anthony Oncology Center and OSF Homecare Services.
