Rockford- Eugene R. Gene Pigatti, 79, passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009. Born January 12, 1930 in Rockford, son of Eugene V. and Dina Pigatti. Graduate of St. James Grade School, St. Thomas High School, Marquette University in 1951, with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree, and Marquette Law School in 1956, with Juris Doctor Degree. Served in the US Army, Counter-Intelligence, from 1953 to 1955. Married Margaret Mary OBrien on January 15, 1955 in Flint, MI, whom preceded him on January 25, 2000. He was engaged in the general practice of law in Illinois and Wisconsin and trial work in State and Federal Trial and Appellate Courts, since 1956. Gene was a member and senior counselor of the Illinois and Wisconsin State Bar Associations, a former member of the American Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the Winnebago County Bar Association, serving as President from 1989 1990. Served on the Woolsack Society at the University of Marquette Law School and many Bar Association committees and seminars as chairman and lecturer. Lifetime member of the American Lombardi, Verdi Club, and a 3 rd degree member of Knights of Columbus Muldoon council 470, and a 4 th degree member of the General Assembly 190. Former member of Mau-Nah-Tee-See and Forest Hills Country Clubs and Union League Club in Chicago. President of St. Elizabeth Board, before and after the fund drive and construction of the building, 1965-1970, and, together with his wife Peg, was chairman of the fund drive to build Provena St. Anne Nursing Center. Founder, President and lifetime member of St. Anne Foundation Board. Former member of Serra Club to Foster Vocations to the Priesthood and religious life, serving various offices, including District Governor from 1971-1973. Also a former chairman of the City of Rockford Civil Service Commission from 1977-1979 and former board member of the Rockford Symphony. Gene served on many other church and community fund drives over the years.

Survivors include his children; Diane (Bill) Powers of Indianapolis, IN, Deb (Dan) Bretl of Brookfield, WI, Eugene Pigatti of Pittsburgh, PA, Mary (Greg) Osberg of Ann Arbor, MI, John (Kim) Pigatti of Crown Point, IN and Ann (Jeff) May of Mukwonago, WI, 15 grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret M. Peg Pigatti, his parents, sister; Grace Guerrera and son, Louis John.

Funeral Mass Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peters Cathedral, 1243 N. Church, Rockford, IL 61103 . Visitation Wednesday, October 14, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd,.Rockford, IL 61108, with a rosary service to be recited at 7:30. Visitation will continue on Thursday at church from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Interment to be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
