Gail M. Huene Schryer

May 26, 1956 — February 16, 2015

Beloved Daughter and Sister

Gail Marie Huene Schryer, 58, of Rockford passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015, peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 26, 1956 in Rockford, the daughter of Ernest H. and Delores E. (Schuring) Huene. She was a very intelligent, kind, caring and compassionate person who always tried to see the good in people. Through her illness, she never lost her sense of humor. She was a good cook, which she acquired from her dad and was very health conscious when she cooked a meal for her family. An animal lover, she adored her two cats, Faith and Lucy. When asked by people if she had children, she would reply, “They are four legged. They are my babies.” She always enjoyed talking to people about her cats. Gail was a life time member of St. Patrick’s Church. She attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and was a graduate of Boylan High School in 1974. In, 1992, Gail attended Kishwaukee College and received a 2 year degree in ornamental horticulture; she was very talented, knowledgeable and creative in this area. She made beautiful floral arrangements. Gail worked 6 years at the North Main Hilander Store as the Floral Manager, where she was known as the “Flower Lady.” She also worked at Mary’s Candy Bouquet where she had various duties. Mainly, her employment was in the medical field, where she worked as a receptionist at the main desk. Her most recent employment was at Van Matre Health South Rehab Hospital, where she worked for 10 years, but due to poor health, she had to retire. Gail was very well liked by co-workers and visitors. She enjoyed outings with her family, country music and concerts, gospel music, plays and auctions. Gail enjoyed stamping up with her friends; she made beautiful cards with her stamped initials on the back. Gail also loved gardening and planting flowers.
The Huene family would like to give a heart-felt thank you to all the staff at Heartland Hospice for their loving care, encouragement and support. To Debra Corcoran (known as “Pat” to Gail), not only were you a nurse to Gail, but a special friend. To Maureen McClain (Chaplain) for all your prayers and singing to Gail. We loved and appreciated your visits. To all the people who sent Gail nice cards and flowers and kept her in their prayers.
Survived by her mother, Delores E. Huene; her sister, Debra A. Huene and cats, Faith and Lucy, her loving companions. Predeceased by her father, Ernest H. Huene and grandmother, Kathryn Cole. Gail had one wish and that was to be laid to rest by her father and grandmother. The wish will be granted. You will be very deeply missed every day. We will forever keep you in our hearts, we love you Gail.
