Gary L. Ewald, 86, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.

Gary was born in Dekalb, IL on June 21, 1934, son of Mark and Merl (Beverly) Ewald. He graduated from East High School in Rockford and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Gary was employed with Raytheon Technologies as an avionics technician for 37 years, retiring in 1999. He married Beverly A. Dailey on October 24, 1954 at Temple Baptist Church in Rockford. Gary attended Hope Church in Roscoe for many years. He was a member of the Big Brother Organization of America for 57 years and kept in contact with his “little brother” up until his final days. Gary was affiliated with the HAM Radio Operators Club of Rockford. He enjoyed playing golf, watching golf and NASCAR on television and was a fan of the Chicago Bears. Most of all, Gary loved spending time with his family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.

Those left to honor Gary’s memory include his wife, Beverly Ewald; children, Lori (Wayne) Dehn of WI, Dawn (Keith) Pennington of IL and Karen (Steve) Brown of CO; grandchildren, Tyler Dehn, Josh (Lynette) Scott, Allison (Matt) Janowski, Katelyn (Josh) DeJong, Milena and Andrew Brown; great-grandchildren, Oliver, Evelyn, Oscar, Eleanora, Jane and Josephine; siblings, Lyle Ewald, Arlene Stacy and Rita Kerry; special “little brother”, Steve Davidson of AL and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents.

A drive-through memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Northeast Christian Church, 5651 E. Riverside Blvd. Rockford, IL 61114. Those wishing to attend the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the church are asked to contact the family for details. Final resting place will be in Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, Rockford Rescue Mission and Heartland Hospice.
