Genevieve P. Mcnames

Genevieve P. McNames, 100, Rockford, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 24, 1914, in Mount Morris, the daughter of Ulysses B. and Bessie (Davis) Pittenger. Genevieve married Albert McNames in Belvidere on June 13, 1931. She taught in the Rockford Public Schools and then served as Principal of Marsh Grade School and later at Spring Creek Grade School. Genvieve is a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, the DAR (Daughters of the Revolution), and the NEA (National Education Association). She enjoyed reading and playing Bingo.
Survived by her children, Lloyd (Joanne) McNames, Carolyn (Howard) Knodle, and Patricia Nichols, all of Rockford; her grandchildren, Kim Gorham, Geoffrey (Connie) McNames, Michele (Steve) Wirtz, Linda (Robert) Roe, Cheryl (Mark) Christeson, Howard (Lauren) Knodle, Scott (Clare) Knodle, and Patrick (Dawn) Nichols; 23 great-grandchildren; 9 great great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Albert, her grandson, Michael Nichols and her great great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4055 N. Rockton Av, Rockford with Reverend Doug Williams officiating. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church. Memorials may be made to the family. Share online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
