Genevieve R. Cascio

December 15, 1935 — January 19, 2012

Genevieve R. "Rikki" Cascio, 76, of Rockford, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 19, 2012 in Alpine Fireside Health Center surrounded by her loving family. Born December 15, 1935 in Boston, MA, daughter of Walter R. and Josephine E. (Mikulski) Fulton. Graduate of Rockford West High School. Married Carl J. Cascio in St. Anthony of Padua Church on August 13, 1955 and was still a member to date. She was a member of the Golden Agers and the Seniors of St. Bernadette, enjoying the many trips they took where she loved to play the slots. Rikki was totally devoted to her family, while the light of her life were her two grandchildren. Some of the happiest times were spent travelling with her grandchildren on countless vacations and weekends spent with her family at the Marriott Lincolnshire. She had a vibrant personality with a contagious laugh and wonderful sense of humor. She was known for her timeless and classic sense of style. Survivors include her daughters, Brenda (Robert) Calgaro and Denise (Danny) Wood; grandchildren, Courtney Calgaro and Jordan Calgaro; sister, Gerri (Larry) Phippen; nephew, Richard V. Masso, Jr.; niece, Darlene Patton and numerous nieces and nephews from her Cascio family. Predeceased by her husband on May 24, 2005, her parents and her granddaughter, Ashley Calgaro. Rikki'¢s family would like to thank the staff of Alpine Fireside Health Center, Dr. Bernard O'¢Malley, Dr. Mete Korkmaz and staff and OSF St. Anthony Hospice for the wonderful care she received. Her family also appreciates the prayers and support they have received from their family members and friends during Rikki'¢s ten month battle with colon cancer.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with the Franciscan Friars officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 57 p.m. Friday, January 27 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108 and from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Poor Clares Corpus Christi Monastery, 211 S. Main, Rockford, IL 61102 or St. Jude Children'¢s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
