Gerald A. "Bubba" Heinen Gerald A. "Bubba" Heinen, 69, a lifelong resident of Rockford, passed away on July 24, 2009 in his home after a hell of a fight with cancer. Jerry was born July 10, 1940 in Rockford, the son of Edward And Susie (Pann) Heinen. Jerry married Peggy Sahs on February 27, 1965. Jerry graduated from St. Thomas High School. He retired from the City of Rockford Fire Department after 25 years of service and worked for Carquest for several years after his retirement. Jerry received the nations most prestigious award in 1990, the Carnegie Hero Fund Commissions "Medal of Honor" , in recognition of an outstanding act of heroism and also received the "Directors Award" (one of only seven in the state at that time) from Illinois State Police Director Margolis. He was a member of City of Rockford Fire Fighters Local 413, V.F.W. Post 9759, and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and every moment spent at his cabin on the Kilbuck Creek. His wife would like to thank Dr. Sharon Shipp, special nurse, Kelsie, and Heartland Hospice. Jerry is survived by hi wife, Peggy; brother Duane (Garnet) Heinen; sister-in-law, Marion Heinen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Raymond and Carole Manke, and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his parents; brother, Ronald Heinen, and nephew, Terry Heinen. Funeral services for Jerry will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 4 P.M. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1 P.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Family and friends may
