Gioconda M. Betty Buffo, 88 of Rockford, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Provena Cor Mariae. Born May 14, 1922 in Rockford the daughter of John and Marie (Guronato) Appoloni. Attended St. Marys Grade School and married her loving husband Peter Buffo who preceded her in death in 2005. Worked from nbsp;1965 to 2003 atnbsp; Boylan Catholic High School in the cafeteria as a cook and at the snack bar, making sure everyone was taken care of.nbsp; A member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and volunteered numerous years for Festa Italiana, performing cooking demonstrations with pasta and Italian cookies. nbsp;The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Provena Cor Mariae and Heartland Hospice. Survivors include her sons,nbsp; Joseph (Judy) Buffo of Winnebago, Maurice Buffo and Peter (Cindy) Buffo both of Roscoe; grandchildren, Beth (Brian) Zimmerman, Joseph P. (Luisa) Buffo, John (Kim Wood) Buffo, Brenda Buffo, Rebecca (David) Miller, David (Novice) Buffo, Michele (Rodney) Kimes, Anne (Vince) Gulotta, Kimberly (Dan) Block, Brian (Keely) Buffo and Jill (Brandon) Ford; 15 great grandchildren and her sister, Theresa Cortese of Rockford. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Peter; daughter-in-law, Sharon Buffo; 1 grandchild, 1 great grandchild; brother, Bruno Appoloni; sisters, Judy (Sid) Edwards, Caroline (Herbert) Rockwood and brother-in-law, Angelo Cortese.nbsp;

Funeral Mass Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Franciscan Friars officiating. Interment in St. Mary/St. James Cemetery.nbsp; Visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Visitation continues on Sat. in church from 9 -9:45. In lieu of flowers memorials in her name to Provena Cor Mariae for the garden fund.
