Glen R. Lewis

Glen R. Lewis, 94, of Rockford died Monday, May 23, 2016 at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born August 25, 1921 in Hazel Green, WI the son of William and Marie (Taylor) Lewis. Served in the United States Army during WWII on the beaches of Normandy where he lost numerous friends and saw many soldiers die. He was lucky to have missed an attack on his communications bunker while out checking the lines for problems, it was a very tragic day for him. On August 11, 1946 he married his blushing bride, Ruth Silberman and together they had a beautiful baby girl. Glen worked for Sears Roebuck for 40 years as a service technician and after he retired he took time to enjoy his grandchildren and great grandchildren and his large yard and extensive flower gardens.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jeff and Sue Fustin for all they have done and especially to Jeff for being the brother Cathy never had.

Survivors include his daughter, Cathy (Richard) Vernam; granddaughter, Maureen (Anthony) Demma; grandson, Richard (Leslie) Vernam III; great grandchildren, Vincent, Nicole, Alec, Ellen, Justin and Emmy; brothers, Dale (Rosella) and Elmer (Norma) Lewis. Preceded in death by his wife Ruth in 2014; brothers, Ray, Carl and Bert and sister, Eileen Massie. Funeral service Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 10:30 am at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, 3470 N. Alpine Rd. with Pastor Dan Wynard of Alpine Lutheran Church officiating. Interment in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 4 -7 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd and continues on Wednesday at Fairhaven from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to: Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, Alpine Lutheran Church or Serenity Hospice.
