Gregg C. Johnson, 62, Pecatonica, died Sunday, January 16, 2011 in Rockford Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.nbsp; Born September 27, 1948 in Rockford, to Lloyd F. and Pauline E. Rickard Johnson.nbsp; In 1966, he graduated from Rockford Auburn High School.nbsp; He married Linda J. Andersen Sala on May 25, 1975 in Rockton, IL. and was anbsp; member of the Shirland United Methodist Church.nbsp; Gregg served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was a member of the Pecatonica American Legion Post No.197. He was a life long member of the Rockford Sportsman Club where he served as a director.nbsp; Gregg was a machinist by trade and worked at Warner-Lambert as a mechanic for over 25 years.nbsp; For the past 10 years, he owned/operated Double J Hauling and Dumpsters.nbsp; He loved to buy and sell most anything and especially enjoyed the annual Pec Thingnbsp; Antique and Flea Market. He will always be remembered for being part of the Pecatonica Memorial Day Parade and for all of the candy and gum he shared. Gregg could be described as a character with a heart of gold.nbsp; He had a deep love for animals and cared for many of them throughout the years. He loved his family,was a hard worker and always helped anyone in need.



Survivors include his loving wife, Linda, Pecatonica; children, Laura (Douglas) Sala Hamrick, Rochester Hills, MI and Jack Sala, Pecatonica; grandchildren, Kelsey Hamrick, Kimmie Hamrick and Katelyn Sala-Hoiten; sister, Kathi (Bill) Solon; brothers, Scott Johnson and Todd (Pam) Johnson and numerous nieces/nephews and grandnieces/grandnephews.nbsp; Predeceased by his parents.



Funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. Roland Harkleroad officiating.nbsp; Burial in Shirland Cemetery.nbsp; Visitation on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and from 1:30 p.m. until time of the service on Saturday.nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family and will be given to Greggs favorite causes.nbsp; The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Rockford Memorial Hospital for their TLC.
