Gregg R. Wadsworth

Gregg Richard Wadsworth, 66, of Machesney Park, was taken into Jesus loving arms on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness with cancer. Born January 30, 1946; son of Paul Wadsworth and Emogene (Scarlett) Wadsworth. Lived most of his life in Rockford and was a graduate of Rockford West High School. He served in the US Navy from 19641968 on the USS Pocoho. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan Johnston on May 10, 1969. Gregg retired as a plumber of 35 years from Local 23 Plumbers and Pipe fitters. He was everyones"Mr. Fixit" and started his own small business, Home Rehabilitators after retirement. He worshiped at North Park Church of Christ and was involved in benevolence work with the congregation. Gregg was also a great help with the Helping Hands Pantry. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Joan Wadsworth; daughter, Jeanne Wadsworth; son, Joel (Katie) Wadsworth; grandchildren, Shea and Brianna Wadsworth; stepmother, Marie Wadsworth; sisters, Patty (Eric) Opon, Carol Schmidt, Debbie (Steve) Sheilds, Brett (Camille) Moore, Andrea St. Clair, Lana (Steve) Aronson and Linda (Steve) Engels; sistersinlaw, Carol (Dennis) Phillips and Kay Hill and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; stepfather, Andy Moore; father and motherinlaw, Tom and Monica Johnston; brother, Gary Wadsworth. Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108 with a visitation from 10:00am till 11:30am at the funeral home. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Helping Hands Pantry, 7624 Elm Avenue, Machesney Park, IL 61115.
