Harriett K. Brooks, 91, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2016 at Wesley Willows. She was born on August 28, 1924, in Indianola, IA, the daughter of Isaac and Ella (Marken) Keen. She attended Iowa State University, receiving a Bachelors of Science in Nutrition. Harriett worked for the National Dairy Council in Chicago, where she met medical student Philip Dean Brooks. The two married on June 12, 1949, and moved to Rockford in 1957. Harriett was a gourmet cook, world-traveler, avid reader, and lover of art, music and dance. She was an active member on the Women’s Art Board, Rockford Art Museum board, Rockford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Rockford Garden Club, Antiques Club B, and several book clubs. She worked as a travel agent for Morrison Travel Agency for nearly 26 years. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and will be missed by all of those who knew her.

Harriett is survived by her children, Douglas (Helen) Brooks of Santa Fe, NM, and Ann (Douglas) Logan of Sarasota, FL; her grandchildren, Jennifer Murray and her son Bennett of Rockford, James (Rachel) Brooks and their daughter Avery of Roslindale, MA, Peter (Kimi) Brooks of Santa Monica, CA, William Brooks of Madison, WI, Carter (Jasmine) Logan of Brooklyn, NY, and Philip Logan of Houston, TX. Predeceased by her husband; daughter, Linda Murray and son-in-law, Dennis Murray; and brother, Walter Keen.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service.
