Harry J. Doherty

Harry J. Doherty, 88, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

Harry was born February 21, 1932 in Rockford, IL, son of Leon and Anna (VonDerVellen) Doherty. He married Charlene M. Catalani on June 6, 1959 in Rockford. Harry was a proud United States Army Veteran, having served our country in the Korean War. He was employed with Amerock Corporation for 44 years before retiring. Harry was a longtime member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church where he also helped with cleaning, lawn care and funerals. He was involved in the card club for many years with his wife, Charlene, along with their monthly pot luck group. He was in a bowling league for many years, enjoyed fishing, dancing with his wife and tinkering at home as a handyman and talented woodworker. Most of all, Harry loved spending time with his family.

Surviving relatives include his 4 children, Susan Burrows (Jeffrey Currie), Kenneth (Linda) Doherty, Catherine (Christopher) Misci and Christopher (Beth) Doherty; grandchildren, Ian, Lauren, Bradley, Anthony, Nicholas, Anna, Matthew and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Rocky and Leah; sisters, Betty and Marilyn; brother, Michael and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; wife, Charlene and siblings, Paul, Larry, Marjorie, Patrick, Eleanor and Kathleen.

Celebration of the Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave. Rockford, 61103. Walk-through visitation will be from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Rockford, 61103. Those attending services must wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Burial will conclude in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
