Helen M. Burns

Helen M. Burns, 80, of Rockford, IL, passed away on October 16, 2022, at her home. She was born on September 23, 1942, in Rockford, Illinois to William J. and Antoinette A. (Chmieleski) Burns.

Helen was a lifelong devout Catholic, member of St. Peter's Cathedral, who enjoyed attending Mass at many different Parishes in the Rockford area. As a 1960 graduate of St. Mary’s High School, she was described as having a noble heart, sure faith, and determination. Helen’s working years included 20 years in a mortgage office, 15 years as office manager at Benson Pool & Spa, and several years at UPS. She spent many years after that running her own business, Errands Unlimited, which provided being a caregiver to those in need. Helen enjoyed golfing and bowling with her longtime friends, watching football, and often attended Music in the Park performances at the Sinnissippi Bandshell. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family. When her, Shawn & Audra were younger, she would often take them to the toboggan run at Anna Page Park and sledding at Sinnissippi and Sand Park. She would always be present and cheering on her great niece & nephews at their sporting events.

Helen is survived by her nephew, Shawn (Andrea) Burns; niece, Audra (John) Dusek; great nephews, Connor, and Alex Burns; great niece Ava Burns, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Donald Burns, and sister-in-law Nella Burns.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, November 5th from 9:00 am until 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory – Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago, IL.
