Helen J. Von Gillern of Cherry Valley passed away peacefully Wednesday September 26, 2012 in her home, surrounded by her family. She was born July 28, 1926 in Wilmette, IL.nbsp; She was the daughter of Andrew and Justine Handler.nbsp; She married Dave Von Gillern on September 3, 1946 in St Peters Church; Skokie, IL. Dave predeceased her on September 14, 2006.nbsp; She worked at Wyeth Labs, Evanston State Bank and Marshall Fields for 28 years, retiring in 1986.nbsp; She was a member of St Joseph Church in Lena and St Rita Church in Rockford. She enjoyed surrounding herself with her family and friends often.nbsp; In her earlier years she and her husband were active members in the Skokie Players Theater Group. In her retirement years she enjoyed playing cards weekly with her Lena lady friends and listening to music.

nbsp;Survivors include her two sons William (Hany) Von Gillern, Claremont, New Hampshire, Richard (Jean) Von Gillern of Cherry Valley, IL.nbsp; Grandchildren Heather (Don) Rebstock, Andrew (Janet) Von Gillern, Brooke (David) Fermin, Jennifer (Touy) Thammavong, Erich (Fianca(c), Melissa Fritz), 9 Great grandchildren and a sisterinlaw, Eleanor Handler of Lena, IL. Besides her husband Dave, she wasnbsp;predeceased by her parents, and Brother John Handler.nbsp; The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their dedication and heart felt care, especially Valerie and Misty. In addition, the family would like to thank Julie from Dr Sweeneys office, for her loving care.

nbsp;Memorial Mass at 11am, Monday October 1, 2012 in St Rita Church with Rev. David Peck officiating.nbsp; Visitation from 10 am until time of service, Monday in the church.nbsp; In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice. Express online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com
