Hugh T. Degroff

Hugh T. DeGroff, 76, lifelong resident of Rockford passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Born July 9, 1942, the son of Faye and Marguerite (Lawson) DeGroff. Hugh was a graduate of Roosevelt Military Academy in Aledo and attended classes at Rock Valley College. Hugh was a United States Air Force Veteran. Hugh married Linda Freedlund on October 17, 1959 in Dubuque; they just celebrated 59 years together. Hugh was a route salesman for 50 years for Ideal Uniform, which was later bought out by Cintas. Hugh enjoyed square dancing with Linda for 40 years and was president of the RRADA. Hugh was an active member of the Masonic Lodge Star in the East #0166, the Tebala Shriners, Knights Templar Crusader Commandery #17 and the American Legion. Hugh enjoyed Civil War reenactments, was a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and with Linda, they often traveled to Gettysburg. Hugh also enjoyed golf.
Lovingly survived by his wife, Linda; children, Cheri (Bill) Farnam, Richard (Lori) DeGroff and Michelle Mattingly; grandchildren, Angela Kelly, April Jez, Jeremy DeGroff and Jacob Torgeson and his dog, Molly. Predeceased by his parents and granddaughter, Nicole Linenfelser.
Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
