Jack Lungo

March 10, 1940 — March 25, 2015

John (JACK) M. Lungo, 75, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at River Bluff Nursing Home. Known by many as "Captain Jack" he was born March 10, 1940, in Rockford, Ill., son of Anthony Lungo and Nancy (Lungo) Wallunas. Jack attended East High School where he
lettered in many sports. He later joined the Air Force and served honorably for 4 years. Jack was a local entrepreneur having operated many businesses in the Rockford and Loves Park area. First with Jack's Sport Shop, then his true calling with Park Oaks Restaurant & Marina,
Lungo's Landing and Edgewater Motel. The "Lady of the Rock" cruise ship made several trips up and down the river many of those free of charge to local charities and retirement homes. An original "River Rat" for over 40 years, everyone knew Jack, he was always smiling
and though he appeared to have a rough exterior he in fact had a very big heart and was loved and respected by all who knew him well. Jack was an avid traveler having traveled to many tropical destinations. He particularly enjoyed scuba diving and went on numerous dive trips
with his 3 brothers. He later spent winters at his vacation home in Arizona. Surviving is his loving long time partner Tracey Cochran, four children John (Mary) Lungo of Laveen Arizona, Kristy Lungo of Durham, England., Phil Lungo of Rockford, IL and Ashley Lungo of
Rockford, IL.; eight grandchildren, Anthony, Sophia, Tahlia, Joseph, Dane, Tristin, Jordyn, De Vaughn and four great Grandchildren. Two brothers, Phil (Mary) Lungo and Mike (Maria) Lungo; sister, Nancy (Larry) Gilbertson; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased
by parents and brother Guy. That strip of waterfront property along the Rock River will seem very different without the steady hand of Captain Jack at the helm. You will be missed deeply by all of us who love you. "If my ship sails from sight, it doesn't mean my journey ends, it
simply means the river bends".
