Rockford- James Joseph Dillon, 87, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at Provena St. Anne Center. Born February 27, 1922 in Rockford, son of Henry and Nora (Reedy) Dillon. Married his loving wife Dorothy Goethe in Rockford on October 24, 1942, she preceded him on February 2, 1998. Worked for Northern Illinois Gas Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1983. Member of St. James Catholic Church where he was an usher and a volunteer for the St. James Cornucopia Food Pantry. Additional memberships include Elks Club and the Knights of Columbus. Jim also enjoyed playing golf. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Doug Key for being our brother. Survivors include his daughters, Judy Prehn of Woodstock, Marcia (Jerry) Vickery and Linda (Mike) Dillon-Kaszczuk both of Rockford; grandchildren, Rev. James Prehn, S.J. of Evanston, Timothy Prehn of San Jose, Craig Prehn of San Francisco and PFC Aaron Kaszczuk, USMC; sister, Catherine (James) Williams of Oklahoma City, OK; sister-in-law, Ethelyne Dillon of Rockford and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; brothers, Francis Dillon and Don Dillon; sister, Margaret McCarthy; and son-in-law, Michael Prehn.

Funeral Mass Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. Second St. Rockford, with Rev. James Prehn, S.J. officiating. Visitation Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 4-6 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 5:30 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Private Inurnment will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. James Student Aid Fund, 409 N. 1 st St. Rockford, IL 61107.
